Charitable Gift Annuity
The stock market may fluctuate, but donors who have created charitable gift annuities with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy have the certainty and reliability of their quarterly annuity payments.
If you are age 60 or older and wish to support the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy but also still need to receive income for life from some of your assets, a charitable gift annuity may be an appropriate choice.
With an irrevocable gift of $10,000 or more in the form of cash or marketable securities, you can establish a charitable gift annuity with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. With this simple agreement, WPC will make a fixed annuity payment to you for the rest of your life.
You may also elect to structure a charitable gift annuity to make an annuity payment to both you and your spouse for life. Annuity payout rates are based on your age(s) at the time of the gift and are calculated according to nationwide charitable gift annuity standards.
Upon creating a charitable gift annuity, you receive an immediate charitable deduction and quarterly payments can begin immediately. A portion of the gift annuity payments is “tax free” as well.
Is a charitable gift annuity an attractive option for you? It could be if:
- You ultimately wish to support the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy but still need to receive steady income from your assets
- You are age 60 or older
- You have appreciated securities or cash on hand

Deferred and Flexible Charitable Gift Annuities:
If you are planning for retirement and wish to support WPC but don’t need income from a particular set of assets yet, a deferred charitable gift annuity could be an attractive option. You can set up a charitable gift annuity now and defer the income for several years. You would get an immediate tax deduction in the year that you make the gift and a higher annuity rate in later years.
You may wish to consider a flexible gift annuity, which is a variation of a deferred gift annuity that allows you to continue to delay the start of your payments, in exchange for a higher annuity rate, over the course of a prescribed set of years. It’s there when you need it; you may elect to start receiving payments on any one of a range of dates. These dates and their corresponding payment amounts will be specified in the initial agreement between you and WPC. The older you are at the time of your gift and the longer you elect to defer payments, the greater your fixed income payment.
