Join us as we thank you for the progress you've made possible through your generous support. You're invited to the 2016 Members' Day and Annual Meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at The Barn at Fallingwater in Mill Run, Pa. Registration is now closed.
Members’ Day 2016 Itinerary (subject to change)
Tour Fallingwater: Register in the Upper Barn for an optional, free one-hour tour of Fallingwater. Tours are available from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Reservations are required. Allow 30 minutes to drive, ride the shuttle or hike the half-mile to Fallingwater from the Barn.
8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast
8:30 a.m. Hike: Birding Hike (1.5 hours, moderate)
9:00 a.m. Hike: Nature Walk (1 hour, easy)
9:30 a.m. Botanist-led Plant Identification Hike (1.5 hours, easy)
9:30 a.m. Family Nature Hunt and Bioblitz (1.5 hours, easy, suitable for families with young children)
9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Information Sessions, Upper Barn
9:00 a.m. Touring Western Pa. from the Water: Canoe Access Sites - Explore the new GIS map of canoe and kayak access sites throughout Western Pa.
9:30 a.m. Before and After Fallingwater: Learn about the Kaufmanns’ other homes in Fox Chapel and Palm Springs, Ca., and how each home reflected a different era of their lives.
10:00 a.m. WPC and Community Green Infrastructure: Learn how WPC is helping communities address stormwater management and water pollution through “green scan” analyses and green infrastructure.
10:30 a.m. The French Creek Watershed: A Community Treasure - Get an overview of WPC’s work in the French Creek watershed.
11:00 a.m. Children’s Book Author and Entertainer Mark Weakland: Children will enjoy a reading by award-winning author, Mark Weakland, from his new book about insects and entertaining through music.
11:00 a.m. Members’ Meeting and 2015 Highlights, Fireplace Room
12:00 p.m. Lunch Buffet
1:00 p.m. Family Crafts Table, Upper Barn
1:00 p.m. More about Protecting Bats Facing White-Nose Syndrome: An in-depth look at bat protection.
1:00 p.m. Fallingwater Landscape Hike (2 hours - 2 miles, moderate). Enjoy the land that drew the Kaufmann family to this special place and inspired Frank Lloyd Wright.
**Two hiking groups – 2nd group begins at 1:30 p.m.**
1:00 p.m. All Across Bear Run Reserve Hike (3 - 3.5 hours, rugged hike). The longest and most strenuous hike, including very steep inclines and rough terrain. For experienced and conditioned hikers.
1:00 p.m. Wildflower Walk at Ohiopyle State Park (3 - 3.5 hours, moderate). Meet at the Upper Barn Hike Station and drive to Ohiopyle.
2:00 p.m. Nature Walk at Bear Run (1 hour, easy)
3:00 p.m. Event Concludes
