Fallingwater Announces World Heritage Nomination

UNESCO World Heritage nomination cover

Fallingwater is among a group of nine other buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright to become the first works of modern architecture nominated by the United States to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List. Lynda Waggoner, director of Fallingwater, coordinated all aspects of preparation of the 428-page nomination dossier, entitled Key Works Modern Architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright. Only 22 of the more than 1,000 World Heritage Sites worldwide are located in the United States. You can receive an in-depth look at Fallingwater’s involvement in the UNESCO World Heritage nomination process by signing up to receive the spring issue of eConserve.

Conservancy Property Added to Forbes State Forest

Land added to Forbes State Forest

For the first time, the Fort Necessity National Battlefield is now linked geographically with the nearby Forbes State Forest, thanks to land that was acquired by the Conservancy, and transferred to the state last month. Almost 1,000 acres were conveyed to the Pennslyvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, completing the Conservancy’s goal of linking the battlefield with the adjacent state forest system so there cannot be development between the two. You can learn more about this property on our website.
Laurel Foundation Continues Beautifying Pittsburgh with Flower Baskets

Laurel Foundation flower baskets

For the 11th year, Laurel Foundation has awarded a grant to ensure that flower baskets will once again brighten downtown Pittsburgh. Thanks to the Foundation, 410 colorful hanging baskets will line major streets and pedestrian thoroughfares and the Rachel Carson, Andy Warhol and Roberto Clemente bridges during the spring and summer months. A number of individual communities also display flower baskets that are designed and cared for by WPC, bringing the total to 552 baskets. Learn more about our hanging basket program and Laurel Foundation.
