October 2010

Fall Members’ Outing at Erie Bluffs is October 24

the Erie Bluffs

Sunday, October 24, 2010
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Erie Bluffs State Park, Erie, PA

Join WPC naturalists for an afternoon hike through the newest Pennsylvania state park.

Erie Bluffs has one mile of shoreline with scenic views from 90-foot bluffs. You’ll hear about its high-quality ravine forest; rare, endangered and threatened flora; an uncommon oak savannah sand barren ecosystem; exceptional value wetlands; and significant archaeological sites. Naturalists will also describe WPC’s ecological restoration efforts on the site.

WPC acquired the 540-acre tract in western Erie County and conveyed the land to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in 2004. It is the largest undeveloped stretch of Lake Erie shoreline remaining in Pennsylvania.

Please register for this event online or call 412-288-2340 by Thursday, October 21. Registration is $5.00 per person for WPC members and their guests, free for children under 12. Directions will be emailed upon registration. We hope you’ll join us!
