184 Acres of Scenic Land Now Part of Laurel Hill State Park

Penn Scenic View Last month, WPC protected 184 acres in Middlecreek Township, Somerset County. The land, now part of Laurel Hill State Park, features an overlook tower with spectacular views of Laurel Ridge and the park. WPC Offers Family Activities and Hikes at McConnells Mill Heritage Festival on Sept. 24

McConnells Mill State ParkMore than 70 years ago, WPC protected land in Lawrence County that helped create what we now know today as McConnells Mill State Park. On Saturday, Sept. 24, you can join us in celebrating the park’s history during its annual Heritage Festival. WPC staff will offer a variety of activities for children and guided family hikes beginning at 11 a.m. near the gristmill. Register for an Off-the-Beaten-Path Hike at Toms Run on Sept. 18

Toms Run Nature ReserveFor the past decade, we’ve worked to restore our Toms Run Nature Reserve in Allegheny County, by removing old structures, abandoned wells and debris. Now WPC is ready to develop a public trail system for you to explore and enjoy! Be one of the first to hike the reserve’s proposed trail route during a guided hike on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit our website for hike registration information.

Explore Nature in Erie County During Fall Members’ Hike on Oct. 23

Erie Bluffs State Park

WPC members are invited to this year’s fall hike through two spectacular natural areas in Erie, Erie Bluffs State Park and Lower Elk Creek Nature Reserve, on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost for this hike is $5 per person, and members are encouraged to bring a guest! Advance registration is required via phone at 412-586-2340 or by registering online by Thursday, Oct. 20.

Public Comment Period Open for WPC Accreditation Renewal

Laurel Hill State ParkWPC is applying for renewal of land trust accreditation through the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance. As part of the accreditation process, a public comment period is now open for written comments on the Conservancy’s application. If interested, please submit your comment to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission by Nov. 11, 2016. Visit our website to learn more about our accreditation renewal. Or, go to the Commission’s website to submit a comment.

Fallingwater 2017 Calendar Available in Museum Store

2017 Fallingwater CalendarThe 2017 Fallingwater calendar is now available, featuring a unique and diverse collection of sculptures at the house. From cast iron and bronze to carved wood and stone, Fallingwater’s sculptures represent decades of art collecting by the Kaufmann family.
