Western Pennsylvania Conservancy Announces New Sponsor to Save the Welcome Garden at Entrance to Fort Pitt Tunnel

PRESS CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 23

WHO: Thomas Saunders, president and CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy; Judy Wagner, senior director, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy; Conservancy administrators; civic and community officials and executives from the new sponsor of the Welcome Garden at the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

WHAT: Every day, more than 165,000 motorists enter the City of Pittsburgh through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. This year, on the 50th anniversary of the Tunnel, the Conservancy's iconic Welcome Garden at the opening of the Inbound Tunnel was threatened with closure due to a sharp reduction in corporate sponsorships and other funding sources.

At the press conference, a significant new sponsorship will be announced and updated signage unveiled. Additionally, media will have the opportunity to be escorted through the Fort Pitt Tunnel structure and to the Welcome Garden in the highway median, after the press conference, to cover a holiday planting of evergreen trees at the site.

WHEN: Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: Western Pennsylvania Conservancy office
800 Waterfront Drive, Washington's Landing, Pittsburgh 15222
