Director, Human Resources

Fallingwater (Mill Run, PA) and Headquarters - Pittsburgh Office (Pittsburgh, PA)

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is seeking a Director of Human Resources who will be responsible for administration, management, planning and development of all human resource functions for the Conservancy, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the Conservancy’s mission.

The Conservancy has been dedicated to protecting and restoring the region’s exceptional natural places since 1932. As a member-based nonprofit organization, we work in cities and towns across Western Pennsylvania and rely on the help of thousands of members, partners and volunteers. Job Duties

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for human resource management for the Conservancy, including:

  • Employee relations
  • Compensation program and salary administration
  • Benefit and pension plan administration
  • Development and maintenance of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Recruitment and onboarding of new employees
  • Performance management
  • Regulatory compliance including but not limited to EEO, OSHA, all federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
  • Organizational training and development initiatives
Absolute Requirements

Excellent organizational skills–must be able to demonstrate prior success at executing projects in a timely manner and in achieving results on schedule. Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make presentations to the general public and peer audiences.
  • Excellent facilitation and coaching skills–must have the ability to work well inter- and intra-departmentally.
  • Strong planning skills–must be able to develop and implement tactical plans from established strategic goals.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Training/development background preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Eight (8) years of experience in public or private human resource management; OR

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, and five (5) years of HR generalist experience; OR
  • A master’s degree in human resource management or related personnel/human resource field; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Facilities Caretaker – Part Time

Fallingwater (Mill Run, PA)

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC), at our Fallingwater location, is seeking a highly motivated individual as a part-time Facilities Caretaker, who will be responsible for cleaning buildings, removing debris and keeping areas neat and clean, mainly at the Visitor Center and the Barn at Fallingwater (staff offices and event space). However, the part-time Facilities Caretaker may be assigned work in other locations at Fallingwater as needed. This position will report directly to the Head of Housekeeping.

Job Duties
  • Checks restrooms at the Visitor Center hourly and cleans restrooms and replenishes toilet paper and soap dispenser, as needed. Monitors bathroom supply needs and reports when supplies need replenishing.
  • Keeps Visitor Center swept and mopped, picks up trash, removes leaves and other debris, keeps windows clean, wipes off desk surfaces and in the winter may be required to handle minor snow removal on steps. Assists Café staff with keeping tables clean, as needed.
  • Responds to minor maintenance issues in the Visitor Center and fixes or reports items needing repair to maintenance. Visually inspects lights and changes light bulbs as needed.
  • Collects trash from Visitor Center daily, and removes it to collection spot for pick-up.
  • Works at the Barn event space as scheduled, sweeps and mops floors, cleans bathrooms and replenishes supplies.
  • Assists events staff with set up and clean up for special events at the Barn, ancillary buildings and museum as assigned. Maintains supplies at the Barn and reports any necessary supply orders.
  • Assists with basic exterior maintenance at the Barn event space, such as sweeping, shoveling and spiderweb removal.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Museum Housekeeping Specialist I – Part Time

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC), at its Fallingwater location, seeks a part-time museum housekeeping specialist to clean ancillary WPC buildings, offices and interior of museum and perform other housekeeping and basic cleaning duties around the Fallingwater site.

Job Duties
  • Cleans museum and cares for furnishings and collections in accordance with established curatorial and housekeeping procedures as outlined in the housekeeping manual.
  • Oversees the proper arrangement of furnishings, pillows, textiles, and objects, and the placement of other collection pieces, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Reports broken objects, damaged collection items and potential maintenance and safety problems in and around the museum to the Director of Preservation and Collections.
  • Surveys condition of collections and furnishings for wear and dirt and apprises the Director of Preservation and Collections.
  • Keeps equipment and housekeeping storage shelves clean and organized.
  • Cleans Barn, pavilion gallery, ancillary WPC buildings and offices, including mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, emptying trash, changing beds, washing windows, cleaning refrigerator, laundry, etc. as directed.
  • Assists staff with set-up and clean-up for special events at Barn, ancillary buildings and museum.
  • Checks restrooms, kitchen area, entrance area, meeting rooms and other spaces at the Barn during events to assure supplies are restocked and areas spot cleaned as needed.
  • Maintains necessary supplies at the Barn, ancillary buildings, museum and offices.
  • Assists with basic exterior maintenance, such as sweeping and spiderweb removal.
  • Supports the Conservancy’s fundraising efforts and needs, as applicable.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested.

Café Assistant – Part Time

Job Duties
  • Keeps Café clean and neat
  • Preps, cooks and plates items for Café service, grab-and-go, table service and special events as needed
  • Waits on customers, runs cash register, balances at end of day
  • Assists in maintaining inventory, monitors shortages and informs co-workers, assistant manager or manager as needed
  • Supports the Conservancy’s cost containment and fundraising efforts and needs, as applicable
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with food preparation, cooking service and preparation
  • Good customer service and organizational skills
  • Some experience handling cash
  • Some knowledge of food preparation and presentation

Museum Store Sales Associate – Part Time

Fallingwater (Mill Run, PA)

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, at its Fallingwater location, seeks a pleasant and enthusiastic individual to assist customers at the Fallingwater Museum Store.  The primary function of the position is to assist the full-time sales team in the day-to-day operations, which includes providing customer service and selling store merchandise. Retail or customer service experiences preferred.  Must be flexible with schedule, dependable and able to work weekends.

Job Duties
  • Waits on and assists customers with purchases.
  • Accurately processes sales transactions via Point of Sales system.
  • Assists senior associates with opening and closing procedures, which includes cash handling and balancing cash drawer.
  • Restocks merchandise and maintains displays.
  • Cleans Store daily and upholds its appearance.
  • Sells WPC memberships in Museum Store.
  • Supports the Conservancy’s cost containment and fundraising efforts and needs, as applicable.
  • Assists with year-end inventory counts.
  • Assists with organization of backstock and stockroom.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested.

Visitor Services Representatives – Part Time – (2 Positions)

Fallingwater, a National Historic Landmark and UNESCO World Heritage site owned by The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC), is seeking highly motivated and engaged individuals to serve as Part-time Visitor Services Representatives who will be responsible for taking and updating reservations and visitor information, greeting visitors, selling admission tickets, staffing the information desk and working with internet ticket sales. They will also assist with Fallingwater special events, as needed. These positions will report directly to the director of visitor services.

Job Duties
  • Trains and works at all areas within the visitor services department including, admissions booth, reservation office, information desk, group sales and shuttle driver when needed.
  • Communicates with individuals who are interested in Fallingwater.
  • Completes visitor requests for information and mails brochures as requested.
  • Answers questions from visitors in person, on the telephone and via email, and directs visitors to proper areas.
  • Compiles end of day paperwork on a daily basis, including cash and credit card receipts.
  • Follows cash handling procedures in the admissions booth, information desk and reservations office as established by the visitors services manager, operations supervisor and finance department.
  • Tallies daily attendance numbers and assists in managing visitor flow through the control of daily reservations and visitors entering the property.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with on-site staff and work stations to ensure a smooth visitor services process by notifying all appropriate areas, including admission booth, information desk, museum shop, café, and floor supervisor of reservation totals and special situations.
  • Maintains the visitor services database.
  • Entering new reservations and update existing information received by telephone, mail, email in the reservation office.
  • Compile daily summary report, generate and send email confirmations.
  • Sell tour tickets and process payments. through reservations office, at admissions booth or information desk.
  • Compile daily internet sales and/or gift card redemptions and activations reports.
  • Completes group reservations, lodging partner reservations, and maintain lodging partner account statements (as assigned).
  • Assists with reservations, information and admissions concerning special events held at Fallingwater and the Barn at Fallingwater, as requested.
  • Provides other support to Special Events as needed including scheduling, set-up and clean-up.
  • Supports the Conservancy’s cost containment and fundraising efforts and needs, as applicable.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
