COMMUNITY GARDENS & GREENSPACE
Initially provided as a gift to the City of Pittsburgh for its 192th birthday celebration in 2008, today more than 600 large planters accent main pedestrian corridors downtown Pittsburgh all year long.
The Colcom Foundation first proposed this “bouquet of flowers” for the city 10 years ago and has continued its support for the downtown flower planters project and other beautification efforts in downtown Pittsburgh.
Thanks to the foundation, seasonal flower displays line the streets of downtown Pittsburgh during the course of the entire year. Daffodils and pansies usher in spring, combinations of mixed summer flowers bring color to key corridors in the summer, chrysanthemums brighten the streets when things turn brown in the fall and an assortment of evergreens remains vibrant in grey winter months.
