75 years ago, the Kaufmann family commissioned one of the world’s most famous homes — Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. The house’s fate could have been like many of the other buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright over his seven-decade career: eventually demolished, “renovated” beyond recognition, encroached upon by other structures or left in disrepair.
Instead, Edgar Kaufmann jr. had the foresight and vision to plan for its future, gifting it to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1963. Now, nearly five million people, including thousands of school children, have been touched and in many instances transformed by experiencing Fallingwater. And generations to come will have the opportunity to marvel at this remarkable place, thanks to Edgar Kaufmann jr.’s. gift.
You probably do not own a world-famous home and may not have amassed a fortune. However, you too can make a difference in the work of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy through your estate plans while still providing for your family. We will be happy to explore with you the legacy that you would like to leave and help you develop a plan to make it a reality.
