Building a conservation blueprint for Pennsylvania

Middle Allegheny Forests

The forested region of northwestern Pennsylvania in the vicinity of Allegheny National Forest is an extensive landscape of private and public lands. These forests are important both as working lands and as the anchor for conservation of the region’s aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity.

This area is within the High Allegheny Plateau ecoregion and includes the Allegheny hardwoods forest type as a signature natural community. Forest blocks in this area share a common major drainage, the Allegheny River.
