Union City Community Work Day

August 2, 2025 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location

Legion Ball Fields Park on First Avenue

Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Union City Borough are hosting a community workshop on Saturday, August 02, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Legion Ball Fields Park on First Avenue.

Residents are encouraged to attend to learn ways to identify and manage invasive weeds, like Japanese knotweed, that have overtaken our community parks, trails, streams and back yards. Tools and instruction will be provided.

We will practice techniques at the park and help prepare the site for upcoming projects:

  • Improve recreational fishing and boating access along South Branch French Creek with
    stream-bank stabilization structures
  • Native wildflowers plantings
  • Tree plantings throughout the park next year

Attendees will learn the best control strategies to manage prolific and problematic weeds, as well as best practices to employ on their own property. Tools and refreshments will be provided.
