Patty Renwick

Volunteering since 2006

For Patty Renwick, staying indoors is not an option. This avid horseback rider and gardener is also involved in tree planting and tree care events with the Conservancy’s TreeVitalize Pittsburgh partnership. Since 2009, Patty has also volunteered to plant trees and mulch in city neighborhoods, as well as provided ongoing care with watering and pruning as a Tree Tender with Tree Pittsburgh.

I enjoy the physical work and meeting like-minded people who want to change the urban landscape and tree canopy in Pittsburgh.

How long have you been a volunteer with us and what motivates you to stay involved at WPC?

I enjoy the physical work and meeting like-minded people who want to change the urban landscape and tree canopy in Pittsburgh. After my first event, and seeing the impact it made in my neighborhood, I was hooked!

Tell us about your favorite volunteer experience at WPC?

I think my favorite experience was our first planting in Troy Hill in 2009, when we organized our first tree planting. I was able to see the first-hand impact of the addition of trees to the streetscape. It made an amazing difference!

What would you tell someone who is interested in volunteering at WPC?

The events are fun and well-organized, and the event leaders are knowledgeable and helpful. It’s fun to connect and meet other volunteers that are my neighbors, and people who come from other Pittsburgh neighborhoods to help. I always meet someone new and interesting!

What might we be surprised to know about you?

I love to groom and muck horse stalls for some decompression time!
