Pittsburgh, Pa. – October 22, 2024 –  The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and its partner organizations, including Bosland Growth, are working to restore native forest habitat on more than 100 acres of the Lake Pleasant Conservation Area in Erie County. These acres have been impacted by past gravel mining. This work will improve the conservation area’s ecological function, enhance wildlife habitat and increase carbon-sequestration capacity.

Site preparation activities for this important restoration, including the use of heavy equipment for brush-hogging and mowing invasive shrubs and other competing vegetation and to loosen the soil, are currently underway at the preserve for the next several weeks. During this time, the public should exercise caution when accessing the project areas located northwest and west of the lake along Lake Pleasant and Valley roads. The areas will be planted with native trees and shrubs in spring 2025.
