The PMSC AmeriCorps member will serve with Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Land Stewardship program to support projects that enhance ecological health, restore natural communities, and provide recreational opportunities at the 5,100-acre Bear Run Nature Reserve and other Conservancy preserves.
Job Duties
The member will be responsible for maintenance of hiking trails and backcountry campsites, invasive plant removal, boundary maintenance, and other land management activities, and will assist with conservation easement monitoring and volunteer workdays.
Absolute Requirements
Academic requirement – Some college with related coursework in natural resource management or a related field. Extensive practical experience may substitute for academic coursework.
Experience requirement – Some outdoor work experience required. Trail work and experience with power equipment (chainsaw and weedwhacker) is preferred. Must be able to work independently and in a group setting. Experience using GPS and GIS applications is preferred but not required.
Additional comments –Given the rural location of the work sites, the member will be required to have a personal vehicle and valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift 50 lbs
Ability to spend extended periods of time in excessive heat and potentially inclement weather and stamina to work long hours hiking through rough, steep terrain
May 23, 2026 – August 2, 2026 (average33 hours/week; 300 hours total); the member must attend occasional Americorps meetings and events.
Pay
AmeriCorps living stipend of $955-biweekly. An education award of $1,565.08 is earned after a successful term of service. Applicants must be willing to commit to the entire service period.
