Mill Run, Pa. — March 4, 2022 — Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019, will reopen Saturday, March 5, 2022 for its 59th tour season. Since opening to the public for its first house tour in 1964, Fallingwater has welcomed a diverse range of visitors from around the world.

Fallingwater, designed by Wright in 1935, is open to the public as a house museum and is also designated as a National Historic Landmark Photo of Fallingwaterand Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasure.

Several types of tours are available, and advance ticket purchase is required as tours are scheduled and limited in size. Helping to enhance the visitor experience, the Fallingwater Museum Store and Café will also reopen on March 5.

Proof of Vaccination or Negative Covid Test Requirement

For staff and visitor safety, effective March 5, Fallingwater will require visitors age five years and older to submit proof of full vaccination via their vaccination card, a copy of their card or a photo of their card on a smartphone. Use of a digital vaccination passport app is also acceptable. Visitors who are not fully vaccinated must provide a negative test result.

Visitors should bring this information, along with personal identification, to present to Fallingwater staff at the entry gate. Visitors who do not have proper documentation will be denied entry. Exterior, Interior and Specialty Tours Experiences

Fallingwater will continue to offer interior and exterior tour experiences, where visitors can gain insights into Wright’s architecture and design philosophy, and discover the beauty of Fallingwater and its natural landscape.

On hiatus since 2020 due to COVID-19 protocols, the popular In-Depth Tour, which allows smaller groups of visitors to explore the secondary spaces of the main and guest house, will return this season.

Tours are offered daily – except on Wednesdays – from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through November 27, 2022. In December, tours will occur on weekends and each day between Dec. 26-31, 2022.

A variety of specialty tours are also offered, including an outdoor family educational experience on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning March 8 through November 23. Called Family Field Trip, the tours provide kids of all ages with learning activities in observation and sketching along with a souvenir bag. Starting in May, Fallingwater will offer Focus, Brunch and Sunset tours that include a seasonal meal created by Fallingwater’s executive chef.

 

Introducing Fallingwater’s New Executive Chef, Ryan DiMarco

This tour season, Ryan DiMarco will bring more than a decade of culinary experience to Fallingwater as the new executive chef to oversee operations of the Fallingwater Café located at the Visitor Center. DiMarco will also oversee fine dining for specialty tours and menu and food preparation for special events.

A native of Pittsburgh, DiMarco was a chef at restaurants in Pittsburgh, Nashville and Columbus, where he deepened his passion for affordable and wholesome food. He worked alongside James Beard Award-nominated chefs and has a passion for sustainable dining and gardening.

 

Exhibition

In addition to tours, Fallingwater visitors can learn more about Fallingwater’s history and collections through seasonal exhibitions at the Visitor Center’s Speyer Gallery. In 2022, two exhibitions will be featured.

“Building Fallingwater,” features a collection of historic photography, archival materials and original film footage of Fallingwater’s construction from 1936-1937. The exhibition will be on view from April 15, 2022, through September 30, 2022.

Also, in celebration of Touchstone Center for Crafts’ 50th anniversary, Fallingwater will host a special exhibition, “Touchstone: A Half-Century of Craft,” October 1 through December 31, 2022, to highlight the history of arts and craft in the United States, specifically in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Fallingwater will serve as inspiration for six contemporary artists whose unique works in wood, ceramic, metal and paper, will be on display during the exhibition. The exhibition will also highlight the Kaufmann family’s unique craft collection.

 

The Fallingwater Institute

A variety of programs, including on-site residencies and virtual workshops, classes and residencies, are available to high school and college students, teachers, design professionals and other professional learners through the Fallingwater Institute. Institute participants gain a deeper knowledge, understanding and analysis of Fallingwater and Frank Lloyd Wright’s ideas of organic architecture by exploring sustainable design practices through hands-on exercises and immersive experiences. Working independently and as teams, participants are challenged to think creatively to solve design challenges.

2022 Fayette County Appreciation Days: March 13 and November 13

Fallingwater will again offer free admission to Fayette County residents during two Fayette County Appreciation Days in 2022, to be held on Sunday, March 13 and Sunday, November 13.

Each year, Fallingwater thanks Fayette County residents by inviting them to experience Fallingwater during Fayette County Appreciation Days. County residents had an important role in Fallingwater’s history and remain actively involved as staff and volunteers in its ongoing preservation, interpretation and stewardship.

Advance reservations for tours are essential to guarantee admission. Free tours are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are encouraged to call 724-329-8501 for information and reservations.

 

Wright at Polymath Park

Fallingwater also takes tour reservations for Wright at Polymath Park, a collection of two Frank Lloyd Wright-designed houses and two from Peter Berndtson, a Wright apprentice. These homes, which are not owned nor operated by Fallingwater, provide examples of Wright’s Usonian-style architecture and his visionary design techniques. Polymath Park is located in Acme, Pa., which is approximately 22 miles from Fallingwater.
